Renaissance Services has extended its support to
British explorer Adrian Hayes on a 2007 expedition to
the North Pole, as part of a small and highly
experienced 4-man Canadian/British team. This
expedition follows Adrian’s successful ascent of Mount
Everest in 2006. On completion of his North Pole
adventure, Adrian will set his sights on conquering
the South Pole in November 2007. If successful, Adrian
will join a small group of only 20 people who have
walked to the ‘three poles of the Earth’ - the North
and South Poles and Mouth Everest.
Announcing the sponsorship of this unique expedition,
Renaissance CEO Stephen Thomas said,” Renaissance's
spirit of enterprise is aligned with Adrian's spirit
of adventure. The metaphors of reaching the highest
summit and expanding our business horizons from Pole
to Pole are obvious, but meaningful”.
Adrian is also an experienced motivational speaker and
he is using the experience from his adventures to the
extremities of the earth in a series of leadership
coaching seminars with Renaissance management teams
throughout the region.
Renaissance believes that the communities in which it
operates should benefit from the company’s presence.
By supporting this initiative and bringing Adrian to
Oman, Renaissance wants to create interest from
today’s youth, in a spirit of adventure and enterprise
so that they show the same courage and leadership in
their societies and business enterprises.
Renaissance takes its Corporate Social Responsibility
seriously and has previously made donations to support
the SANAD programme in the less populous oilfield
regions of the Sultanate. The SANAD programme supports
start-ups of Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) in the
Sultanate. Adrian’s expedition is also raising money
for the Children’s Hope Foundation and a support group
for children with Leukaemia.
On February 12, Adrian will fly to Ottawa in Canada to
begin his expedition of the North Pole - part two of
his three pole challenge to reach the most extreme
parts of the world, Everest and the North and the
South Pole. We wish him good luck.
Adrian, a former Gurkha officer and Special Forces
soldier in the British army, has been a Dubai resident
for the last 10 years and is only the second
Gulf-based climber to reach the Mount Everest summit.
